OCC Interim Executive Holds Maiden Virtual Meeting, Charts Course for Transition and Reforms
Offa, Kwara State – July 25, 2025
The Interim Executive Committee of the Offa Central Council (OCC) held its maiden executive meeting virtually on Wednesday, July 24, 2025. The meeting marked a significant step in restoring structure and vision to the council following recent leadership transitions and internal challenges.
The session was attended by key interim leaders of the OCC:
Comrade Hamza Abdulateef – Acting Coordinator
Comrade Abdulazeez Jamiu Muhammed – Acting General Secretary
Comrade Yinusa Taofeeq Adekunle – Director of Finance
Comrade Yusuf Kamardeen – Director of Special Duties
In the meeting, the interim leadership mapped out strategies to guide the OCC’s operations for the next three months, leading up to the handover of power to a new executive team in December 2025.
Key Resolutions and Highlights:
1. Leadership Training and Reconciliation Initiative
The team discussed plans for a leadership training and dispute resolution program to be facilitated by Alhaji Muhyideen, former National Secretary of ODU and ex-President of the OSU. The initiative aims to address recent disputes within the OCC and foster unity.
2. Peace and Mediation Process
A roadmap was set to engage aggrieved factions within the council. Elders will be invited to mediate and ensure lasting peace within the OCC community.
3. Proper Documentation Handover
Former OCC officials who stepped down have been urged to hand over all official materials—both physical and digital. Hard copy materials are to be submitted to Comrade Yinusa Taofeeq in Ilorin, while digital assets, such as OCC’s email accounts and letterheads, are to be transferred electronically to Comrade Abdulazeez Jamiu for accountability.
4. Media Platform Reforms
The executives agreed to restructure the administration of OCC’s official WhatsApp group. Only the Acting Coordinator and Acting Secretary-General will serve as group admins. In addition, a code of conduct is being drafted for group engagement, which will be shared for input before final adoption.
5. Support for OSU Summer School Program
The OCC pledged financial assistance to the OSU Summer School Program. However, the interim EXCO emphasized the need to resolve internal disputes between OSU national leaders before disbursing funds to avoid further conflicts.
6. Leadership Summit in December
Plans are underway for a physical leadership summit in December 2025, targeting OSU local chapters in tertiary institutions as well as senior prefects from Offa secondary schools. Participants will receive certificates to recognize their participation and leadership development.
7. Rewarding Academic Excellence
The OCC intends to recognize the parents of top-performing Summer School students during the program’s speech and prize-giving ceremony. Cash rewards will be presented on stage to honor family commitment to education and character-building.
The meeting concluded with a strong vote of thanks to all OCC leaders past and present who have remained committed to unity and progress during this transitional period.
The Interim Executive reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and structured leadership until a new administration is elected in December.
