Kwara Security: Eluku Decries Olumoh Express Kidnap, Urges Joint Security Rescue Operation Offa, Kwara State
The incident, which occurred on the Abuja-Offa route near the Ekiti-Kwara border, involved suspected kidnappers who intercepted the vehicle and reportedly whisked passengers away into the forest. The brazen daylight attack has since sparked widespread concern and fear among commuters and residents alike.
Speaking on the incident, Eluku expressed deep worry over the growing insecurity in the southern region of Kwara State, describing the attack as "yet another sad reminder of the glaring failure of the current security architecture in the state."
“The primary responsibility of any government is the security of life and property. Any administration that cannot guarantee the safety of its people is as good as a failed regime,” Eluku said in a strongly worded statement.
He urged the Kwara State Government to take decisive action and stressed the need for a joint security response, involving the Nigerian Police, Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups.
Eluku also recommended that authorities prioritize intelligence gathering and deploy rapid-response units to avert further security breaches. “Our people’s lives matter. Even if we cannot get any development, the very least we demand is the protection of our lives. Offa and the entire Kwara South deserve better,” he added.
He concluded by appealing to both state and federal security stakeholders to ensure the safe return of all kidnapped victims and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The identity and number of passengers abducted remain unconfirmed at the time of filing this report.
