Offa Youth Council Passes Vote of No Confidence in ODU Public Relations Officer, Taofeek Olaosebikan
Offa, Kwara State – October 6, 2024
The Offa Youth Council (OYC) has formally issued a vote of no confidence in the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Offa Descendants Union (ODU), Mr. Taofeek Olaosebikan. This development follows what the Council describes as Mr. Olaosebikan's disregard for patriotism, transparency, and respect for the diverse opinions that characterize Offa’s community spirit.
In a statement signed by the Vice President of the Offa Youth Council, Amb. Lukman Ola Ganiyu, the Council condemned the actions of Mr. Olaosebikan, particularly the removal of Ààrẹ Musbau Ọlálékan Olaniyi from all ODU platforms. The removal, which occurred after Ààrẹ Musbau aired his opinion on the non-usage of the ODU Hall for the 2024 Channels TV Debate, was labeled by Mr. Olaosebikan as an affront to ODU leadership. The OYC, however, views this response as authoritarian, stating that it undermines the principles of open dialogue and inclusion.
A History of Service to Offa
The OYC also highlighted the long-standing contributions of Ààrẹ Musbau Ọlálékan Olaniyi to the Offa community. A prominent figure in Offa for over 30 years, Ààrẹ Musbau has served in several capacities, including:
Assistant General Secretary of Offa Students' Union, Kaduna Polytechnic (2004/2005),
National Amir of Al-Imam Muhydeen Islamic Foundation,
President of Offa Youth Council,
CEO of PrintBest Nigeria Limited and Zeems Sports Arena, which have provided employment opportunities for Offa indigenes,
Holder of the traditional title Ààrẹ Bobajiroro of Offa, under His Royal Majesty, the Olofa of Ọfà.
These contributions, along with his active involvement in Offa-based associations, make Ààrẹ Musbau an indispensable figure in the town’s socio-economic and youth development. The Council finds it troubling that his patriotism and commitment to the advancement of Offa have been questioned.
Call for Resignation
The Offa Youth Council has called for Mr. Olaosebikan's resignation, citing his actions as divisive and harmful to the unity of the ODU. “Mr. Olaosebikan’s behavior does not reflect the democratic values of the ODU, and his actions risk creating discord within the community,” the statement read. The OYC urged the ODU Executive Council to act swiftly in addressing the situation to restore unity and ensure that the spirit of fairness prevails in future dealings.
The Council expressed its hope for a prompt resolution in the best interest of Offa and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts that foster unity and progress in the community.
This matter has gained widespread attention within Offa, and many will be watching closely to see how the leadership of the ODU responds to this serious call for action.
