No Election Held in Offa Local Government Due to Logistics Failures, Says PDP

Offa, Kwara State - September 21, 2024

In a dramatic turn of events, the much-anticipated local government election in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State was marred by significant logistical failures, leaving voters unable to cast their ballots. According to a press statement issued by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and key stakeholders in the region, no election was conducted today due to severe delays and irregularities caused by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC).

Despite the election being scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM, the majority of polling units—about 95% across the 173 polling stations in Offa LG—did not receive voting materials as of 1:00 PM. In the few units where materials did arrive, vital components such as ballot papers were incomplete, and in no unit were result sheets available, the statement revealed.

"This unfortunate situation has left voters frustrated and unable to exercise their democratic rights," the statement read. "The delays and lack of essential materials call into question the credibility and preparedness of the electoral process in Offa LG."

The PDP chairmanship candidate for Offa Local Government, Hon. Comr. Salahudeen A. Lukman, who signed the press release, expressed disappointment with the electoral body and called on KWASIEC to take immediate action to resolve the situation. He urged the commission to reschedule the election and ensure a transparent process in which the people of Offa can participate freely and fairly.

"We urge all citizens to remain calm and await further updates from the relevant authorities," Lukman added.

As of press time, KWASIEC had not yet issued a formal response to the logistical challenges that derailed the election in Offa LG.

The PDP and local residents are now anxiously waiting for the next steps from the electoral commission, hoping for a swift resolution to restore faith in the electoral process.
