Salma Foundation Donates Four Thousand Doses of Vaccine to Harders

The Musa Salma Charity foundation has donated four thousand doses of Anthrax Spores vaccine for the vaccination of livestock across Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.


A team lead of the foundation, mallam Rilwan Musa Ahmed disclosed this at the launching of the vaccination exercise held at Sabon Gari Nabordo in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Sunday, 30 July, 2023.



Mallam Rilwan stated that the foundation which started as a family charity group, has been registered and has started giving charity to outsiders since its registration. 


"This our foundation started long ago but it was not registered. We started it as a family charity. After we have seen the success the charity has recorded, we decided to register it with CAC and now we have started giving our own donations to the outsiders. Last week, we conducted a Medical Outreach in two districts in Bauch Local Government which includes Mararaba Liman Katagum and Baram Gada. We gave free medical assistance to over two hundred people in the districts. We collaborated with Musa Salma Clinic and Maternity. 


The second part is our coming to Toro precisely Takanda and Sabon Gari Nabordo where we flag off vaccination against Anthrax and veterinary doctors are willing to help us do this service. We have targeted about four thousand cattle that we are going to vaccinate here in Toro Local Government where the vaccines have been distributed through out the districts of Toro accordingly", Mallam Musa said.


The team lead of the foundation also appreciate people who have been assisting the foundation in caring out its charitable activities especially the medical team and the media, adding that Musa Sama will continue the campaign on several issues not only the vaccination. 


He called on stakeholders, government agencies and others to see that they give their own contributions to people who are in need especially now that the situation is getting out of hand in terms of economy. Saying that people are really in need of assistance from those that can help them and the resent reported cases of Anthrax in the country calls for measures against transboardering animal diseases. 

While appreciating the contributions of Sarkin Sudan of Toro, Mallam Rilwan Musa also enjoined veterinary doctors, animal health workers and other stakeholders to ensure that all nook and cranny of livestock targeted are fully covered in the exercise.


Speaking on the crises between farmers and herders, Mallam Musa called on Fulani herders to take care of their cattle while rearing them to avoid the ongoing crises between herders and farmers. He said the frequent crises is because of the actions of few people from both parties and urged the leaders of both sides to look into the issue and resolve it for peaceful coexistence. 


The team lead use the occasion to appeal to farmers and rearers to employ dialogue to resolve dispute of any kind and live in peace with one another. 


On his part, a technical officer for livestock in the state, Dr. Abdullahi Ardo called on the benefitted to ensure their livestocks are vaccinated against Anthrax and other diseases. 


"We are here today under the leadership of Musa Salma Charity Foundation. A foundation that donates medical treatment to humanity and looking at the outbreak of Anthrax within Nigeria, this charity foundation is now trying to see that livestock within Toro are properly cared for. Within the limit of this foundation, about four thousand doses of Anthrax spores vaccine has been purchased to support the livestock industry within Toro local Government."


Dr. Abdullahi Ardo who is a member of National Research Institute Vom also advised all the relevant local and state agencies to closely monitor the movement of heardsmen in the state to further boost the prevention of Anthrax and other diseases. 


According to him, Anthrax is an infection caused by bacteria that affects ruminants such as cows, sheep and goat with blood coming out of their mouth, nose and other parts of their body. He urged cattle rearers to be cautious of the aforementioned disease and where manifested, they should report to the necessary authorities for actions.


Dr. Ardo also warns rearers to avoid contact with animals that have the symptoms of Antrax disease, adding that humans can get infected if they have contact with infected animals.


Earlier in their remarks, the Sarkin Shanun Toro and Ardo of Jama'a, Mukaila Usman and Abubakar Adamu expressed their appreciation to the Musa Salma Charity Foundation for the vaccination exercise and appeal to other NGOs to emulate the gesture.


They expressed their determination to support the activities of the foundation and pray to God to reward the face behind the foundation abundantly.
