FINANCIAL SCANDAL, MALADMINISTRATION ROCKS AU ECOSOCC NIGERIA

As Nigeria joins the rest of the African Union member states to mark the Year 2021 Africa

Day Celebration (usually marked 25 May of every year), detailed fact findings emerge over the weekend on huge financial scandal and maladministration rocking the African Union ECOSOCC Nigeria on the engagement of Dr. Rhoda Makinde Foundation (DROMI) as an

implementing partner for the New Decade on African Women Financial & Economic Inclusion recently launched by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Nigerian home office of the African Union Economic, Social & Cultural Council (AU-ECOSOCC).

Strong revelations shows that Dr. Tunji Asaolu-1

st Nigerian Representative of AU ECOSOCC

could not account for the sum of five million Naira (N5,000,000:00) which was paid in two trenches for an agreed purpose since 22nd and 23rd December 2020.

The said amount was without the knowledge of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs (co-partner for the project). It

is on record that more financial demands are being made by Dr. Tunji Asaolu. Available

records shows that Dr. Tunji John Asaolu is demanding for the sum of ten million naira only (being cost for consultancy) and another fifteen million naira only being cost incurred for taking

the project to where it is now, furnishing of the project secretariat, logistics and PR.

An action

which may have spurred the sudden withdrawal of DROMI from the partnership (without the knowledge of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs who were not aware nor have a copy of

the Memorandum of Understanding between DROMI and AU ECOSOCC Nigeria and the

Ministry).

It is on record that AU ECOSOCC Nigeria used the opportunity of launching the event to source funds from two state governors: Sokoto and Kogi State Government, despite using

DROMI to fund the entire event for the flag-off of the project held on 30th March 2021 at the

Presidential Villa State House Banquet Hall.

It is not clear if funds generated were declared

by the AU ECOSOCC Nigeria office to all parties, however it is unknown to some parties that

the process of execution of the project is surrounded by secrecy, diversion of funds, non disclosures of agreements with third parties amidst other negatives tendencies, which may have angered DROMI who have made huge financial commitment to AU ECOSOCC Nigeria

who also enjoyed the sum of five hundred thousand naira only (N500,000:00) for COVID-19 palliative support

The we ask, when did AU became a business venture, profit driven making organization or a

consultancy firm?

May be the African Union Commission and Stakeholders in Nigeria will

provide answers to DROMI? So far DROMI has been paying all bills, including the glamour witnessed at the villa which include the PR, Branding, Sourvenir and Gifts during the Official flag off, AU ECOSOCC Nigeria did not contribute a dime, said DROMI.

As at the time of filing this report, further investigations are ongoing to get more detailed from

all sides and parties to this transaction.
